Ron Siebler - Additions, Remodeling & Renovations - Dallas, TX  the boxcar

In September 2019, the new Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum will open in its new location.

The seminal exhibit of the Holocaust/Shoah wing will be a restored railroad boxcar used by the German Army during WW ll. The Holocaust/Shoah Wing will be the first major exhibition space that visitors will experience. It will encourage visitors to focus on the history and inhumanity that were the horrors of the Holocaust.

The box car was originally brought to Dallas from Belgium in 1984, when Jewish Holocaust Survivors and North Texas residents joined together and created The Dallas Memorial Center for Holocaust Studies. Only a quarter of the boxcar had recently been on display in the current museum, another quarter of the boxcar was in storage, and more than half of the boxcar had been lost to time.

Ron Siebler was tasked with the responsibility to reassemble the existing pieces, and recreate what was missing. Planning, restoration and installation took over two years of work by a dedicated group of highly skilled artisans and craftsmen.
